Résumé

Samantha was born in Lanús, Buenos Aires, Argentina. From a tango family, she spent her childhood with the most outstanding “milongueros” of the southern Buenos Aires area. Her first teacher was the renowned Ricardo Belloso and since her first class, Samantha has now more than 20 years of experience as a dancer and teacher and become a “maestra” in her own right.

Training and Formation

Samantha’s training has been with some of the best Argentine tango dancers, commencing with Ricardo Belloso in 2001 and continuing with Osvaldo Guevara and other renowned teachers such as Gabriel Misse, Gabriel Glagovsky, Raúl Bravo and Veronica Gardella and Marcelo Bernadaz to name a few. In 2004 Samantha formed part of the very important "Ballet Escuela" with instruction from some of the masters that marked Argentine Tango history, including Eduardo Pareja, Esther and Mingo Pugliese, Puppi Castelló, Coca and Osvaldo, Elina Roldan, Pablo Verón, Guillermina Quiroga, Claudia Codega, Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau, Héctor and Elsa Maria Mayoral, and Horacio Godoy.

Samantha has solid practice in classical dance. Her commencement was with Mariel Weselowski (of Ballet Bransen) and then continued to attend classes over many years with the prestigious and internationally renowned Cuban master, Miguel Gómez, as well as with the outstanding teacher and dancer of the Teatro Colón, Cristina Noemí Reale. She also regularly attended body training classes with teacher and dancer Enrique Leyes, also of the Teatro Colón.

Samantha’s tango formation has been continuous and involved formal instruction, but importantly much practice, performance, and immersion in the Buenos Aires tango culture. During the years 2000 to 2005, Samantha dedicated herself, in parallel to her professional activity as a dancer, to the organisation of milongas. She organised successful milongas such as Tía Lola (Lanus), Mi Club (Banfield), La Cascada (Lomas de Zamora) and Mega Tango (La Boca).

Samantha has experience in choreography and attended the intensive course Seminar of Choreographic Composition delivered by one of the greatest exponents of tango, Guillermina Quiroga.

Samantha has been invited by Mario Morales (world-renowned choreographer) to be a judge in the Torneos Bonaerenses and in 2010 formed part of the jury in the Norberto Guichenduc Cup.

Performances and Shows

Samantha has an inexhaustible list of performances, some of the most important include:

  • Selected as the Tango couple to perform in opening ceremony of the 2002 Volleyball World Cup in Buenos Aires’ Luna Park, sharing the stage with the Ballet Bransen and with music and composition by Lito Vitale.

  • Performed in the show "100 x Ciento Tango” in the Austral Theatre, on the imposing Calle Corrientes, together with the orchestra Los Reyes del Tango and the singer Hugo Marcel among others.

  • Performed in the show "Argentina de Noche" in the famous Lola Membribes Theatre, also on Calle Corrientes, with the singer Hugo del Carril (singer of Edgardo Donato's orchestra).

  • Performed various shows in the Esquina Osvaldo Pugliese, a famous show house in the Boedo neighbourhood, where she also shared the stage with an artist of the stature of Roberto Ayala (another well-known singer of Edgardo Donato's orchestra).

  • Selected by the electronic tango group Tanghetto in 2009 to record the music video "Buscando Camorra" and to feature on the cover of the album.

  • Formed part of the dance group "Tango Queer" participating in the INADI Festival 2007 in Mar del Plata with Javier Calamaro.

  • Invited to do exhibition performances in the milonga Cachafaz, Santiago de Chile in 2003, together with Osvaldo Guevara.

  • Tango artist invited to perform at different events for the Argentine Air Force in places like Mar del Plata, Martín García Island, and Jorge Newbery Airport.

  • Selected by Raúl Bravo, together with the Russian dancer Vladimir Khorev, to participate in exhibition tribute night to the master himself in Salon Canning in 2010.

  • Performed regular shows in several emblematic places in Buenos Aires such as Bar Sur, La Comparsita, Café Tortoni, La Esquina Osvaldo Pugliese, El Balcón de la Plaza, 36 Billares, among others.

Competitions and Championships

Samantha has participated in various tango competitions with notable results:

  • 9th place in category Tango Salon at the Campeonato Mundial de Tango 2005 (Buenos Aires, Argentina), together with Mariano Olman.

  • 1st place (champions) in the Pre-World Tango Championship 2006 (Buenos Aires, Argentina), together with Mariano Olman.

  • 3rd place in Campeonato "La Marshall" 2006 (Buenos Aires, Argentina) dancing in the role of man/leader in the couple together with Celeste Gracia.

  • 3rd place in Campeonato "La Marshall" 2008 (Buenos Aires, Argentina) together with Cristian Sosa (Champion of the Campeonato Metropolitano de Vals y Milonga 2009).

  • 1st place (champions) in category Tango Salon at the Campeonato Zona Sur 2005 (Buenos Aires, Argentina), together with Mariano Olman.

Teaching

As a tango instructor and teacher, Samantha has experience from the very start of her tango career, assisting her first teachers in both leader and follower roles. Since that time, Samantha has taught and given classes in innumerable locations including clubs, milongas and tango schools, as well as giving private lessons. A summary of notable teaching experience includes:

  • Teaching classes in Tangocool with director and dancer Gabriel Glavosky.

  • Giving regular classes and seminars, together with Gabriel Glavosky, in milongas such as Fruto Dulce, Floreal Milonga, among others.

  • Delivering a special tango course with Damián Essell at Tangocool.

  • Giving classes intensive seminars during multiple visits to Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the prestigious milonga Tango Baires.

  • Teaching with Osvaldo Guevera in the ballet Tango Mío.

  • Many years giving classes in various Buenos Aires milongas including Tía Lola (Lanus), Mí Club (Banfield), La Cascada (Lomas de Zamora), Mega Tango (La Boca).

Other Dance

Samantha enjoys other dance and body training disciplines for pleasure, but also recognises the benefits that it brings to her professional tango. Complementing her main dance activities Samantha has, and continues to participate in the following:

  • Social Rock and Roll dancing which she has done since the early age of 13 years old.

  • Pilates classes (with teacher and director of the studio "Espacio Corporal" Sabrina Pompilio, and other studios).

  • Pole Dance training (Moria Casan - Pia Pecora School and with Mariana Haedo).

  • Classes of Rock and Roll, Swing, Tap, Charleston, Lindy Hop, and Boogie Boogie with the teacher Roxana Ortiz Araya.

Other Artistic Interests

Samantha is a multifaceted artist, experimenting with different mediums of expression. In parallel to dance, Samantha is an accomplished painter and sculptor and also has a passion for producing photographic sessions with special themes.

Through her continuous immersion in art, Samantha has developed a unique sensibility and is thus able to connect with people through her artistic language.
